Republic Day commemorates the enactment of the constitution of India on 26th January 1950. Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January every year to mark the day on which our constitution came into effect. On this day the country was officially known as the Republic of India — a “sovereign socialist secular democratic republic” that “secures all its citizens justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity,” according to its preamble. The main event for the day is a massive parade held in the capital of New Delhi, which includes cultural, historical, and military displays. SKIPS celebrated Republic Day on 25th January 2022 during our live session. The session began with a small video to help children understand the meaning of the constitution. This was followed by a detailed speech by the teacher, on the history of the Indian constitution and the procedures of celebrating Republic day. During the session, children were introduced to the famous personalities of Indian history along with our national symbols, language etc. Republic day Sash was prepared and worn by the children to show their tribute to our motherland. The session ended with the national song Vande Mataram.
