Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights. In the very old Indian language Sanskrit, Diwali means 'row of lamps'. People light lamps during Diwali to show that light is more powerful than darkness, and good is more powerful than evil. The festival of Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, new beginnings, and the supremacy of knowledge over ignorance. During Diwali people exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It is a time to clean and decorate the houses. People decorate houses with diyas or earthen lamps. Rangoli is a popular Diwali tradition which involves making beautiful patterns using colourful powders.Diwali celebrations were organized in all SKIPS centers on 10th November 2023. All Samites, teachers and caretakers were dressed in traditional Indian attires for the celebration. The children enjoyed taking part in traditional Indian dances like dandiya.They were excited to light and arrange lamps and make the rangoli designs. The Diwali celebration was a day filled with laughter, joy and happiness.
